Calendar: Level A - Math

Students practice calendar vocabulary: days of the week, months, ordinals numbers. They construct a yearly calendar using "calendar puzzle pieces" and answer various calendar-related questions.  Students discuss the importance of using a calendar to remember important dates like appointments and birthdays.

Elapsed Time: Level A - Math
Students calculate elapsed time by reading about Ifrah and her busy day.  A teacher clock with moveable hands is useful for this lesson.

Liquid Measurement: Level A - Math
Students convert units of liquid including fluid ounces, cups, pints, quarts and gallons.  A "Gallon Man" composed of these units of measurement is used to teach the concepts. This lesson calls for measuring cups and other containers for measuring cups, pints, quarts and gallons.  You will also need pre-cut sets of the "Gallon Man", tape, a gallon of juice, a gallon of water and 16 8-ounce cups.

Bar Graphs: Level A - Math
Students will be surveyed and information generated will be converted to bar graphs.  Individual practice involves using candy to make a bar graph.  Assessment contains many test items for practice with this concept.  Allow 2 hours for this lesson.  Activities in this lesson call for graph paper, colored pencils or crayons and a 1 pound bag of M&Ms.

Exact Change: Level A - Math
Students practice finding exact change to buy various items from coin-operated machines: snacks, newspaper, telephone, soda, bus, laundry. A class set of coins is required for this lesson.
