Occupations: Level A - Speaking
Students identify job titles and occupations.  Students practice: What does he do?  What is his job?  What does she do? What's her job? What do you do? What's your job?  Several sets of flashcards must be cut for this lesson.  A follow-up for self study is included in this lesson.  Students keep a record of people they see in their community and write down their job titles.  Students also use a worksheet to study and then quiz themselves on various job titles.

Daily Social Communication: Level A - Speaking
Students practice speaking with strangers in various situations: supermarket, post office, doctor's office, dentist's office, receptionist's desk, bank, clothing store, with a potential landlord.  There are 8 dialogues in this lesson; teachers may want to do 4 dialogues in each of 2 lessons, or choose the situations most relevant to their particular students. Sets of cards for role playing must be cut for this lesson.

Job Interview: Level A - Speaking
Students listen to radio spots announcing job openings: nursing assistant, stock clerk, housekeeping aide, taxi driver, childcare worker.  Students choose a job they are most interested in and role play an interview for that job.  Radio spots should be recorded ahead of time or students should take turns performing them for the class.

Job Duties: Level A - Speaking
In this jig-saw listening lesson, students practice talking about job duties by listening to descriptions given by a mechanic, a housekeeping aide, a childcare worker, and a stock clerk.  Students also listen for what workers like and don't like about their jobs.  Students report information they've learned about one of these workers to a small group.
